So I was super excited to talk to Traci and just hear the design in's and out's of this 3rd designer to win the GrandeMARK Challenge. I also asked Traci to send me photos of some of her favorite projects, so I'll sprinkle those in amongst the questions.
How long have you been designing and writing for your blog, Artsy Albums?
Although I started writing for my blog just three years ago, my paper crafting and scrapbook passion began way back in high school. I was just 19 when I lost my mom to breast cancer, and I began scrapbooking during that time...not only as a way to hold on to memories of her, but also because I realized that I didn’t know the details in many of our family photos. Over the years, the hobby grew into a wonderful life purpose. I love to design scrapbooks and paper crafting projects that encourage others to save their memories and seek their own creative outlet.
What inspires you most?
I try to remind myself to slow down and look at the world around me -- advertising, logos, nature and photography all fascinate me. I also enjoy reading the blogs of other scrapbook designers. This industry is full of so many incredibly talented paper crafters.
If you have a creative roadblock, what do you do- where do you go?
I actually just walk away from the project for a while. This happens often, and I have found that leaving my studio, taking my dogs for a walk, or just getting a snack really helps me come back to the project with a new perspective.
How long have you been an AccuCut customer and how did you become one?
I purchased my GrandeMARK machine and first dies when I opened my business in late 2011. I wanted to be able to offer my mini album kit customers something different...chipboard albums in fun shapes, with unique edging, and custom themes. I found AccuCut after doing some internet research and knew right away that I was hooked!
In your opinion, what AccuCut die should every designer have in their die collection?
Well, since my favorite projects are mini albums, I would have to say one of the Album Builder Bases. I love the versatility of these dies and the fact that you can add other dies to create so many fun themes -- pumpkins, snowmen and butterflys are just a few of the creative possibilities.
What are some of your favorite products to work with and why?
Other than my camera, which I never leave home without, my two other favorite products are foam tape (love dimension on my projects) and my GrandeMARK machine (being able to cut my own chipboard albums).
...heavy duty 3-hole paper punch! I love to order my Accucut dies without the binding holes pre-punched, because then I can use my adjustable paper punch to place my holes anywhere on my project.
If you could have lunch with a famous person who would it be and why?
My mom...she was famous to me, and there are so many questions I never knew I should have asked back then. Otherwise, Ronald Reagan.
What are you looking forward to most in the next six months?
I am excited about my oldest son’s wedding, my youngest son’s new adventures in college, becoming an empty nester with my hubby of 25 years, project ideas that are swirling around in my head, and some new designer opportunities! It’s going to be an exciting, busy, creative journey and I’m looking forward to every single minute! Please stop by www.artsyalbums.com and say hello!
