Is it someone's birthday? At the Miller house, it is a week-long celebration when it's someone's birthday. Grandma loves celebrations so the party just keeps going. I sorta get the same feeling for National Scrapbooking Day -- a week-long celebration! So I've chosen a great die to give away with today's post: the AccuCut A2 Card-Gift Card die.
This cute little card has two slits to hold a standard gift card from just about anywhere. You can use it for any occasion: birthdays, graduations, Christmas or even for a baby gift.
I have a great story I want to share. At Christmas I was trying to get the girls to tell me what they wanted, and the standard answer was "gift cards". But I just wanted to give them something that they could open and play with just like they did when they were little. After the fourth or fifth time I asked, Marissa finally said in a teary voice, "But, Mom, I just love to shop." Well, gift cards it was.
You know that a gift card is always appreciated by the person getting it, but as the "gift card giver" sometimes you just want to dress it up a little to let the person know that it wasn't just a last-minute decision. For a Christmas gift, you can make something like this Oh Christmas Tree Gift Card Holder that was made with BasicGrey Figgy Pudding cardstock. The paper is so pretty you don't even need to add anything to the outside of the card.
And here is the inside. The trees were cut out of the same cardstock and glued to the card that fits on the inside top panel. Add a holiday rub-on or stamp and you're good to go.
So back to my story... When Marissa's birthday rolled around I thought I'd try again. Same answer. "Mom, all I want are gift cards. I want to buy my own swimsuit and I want to pick it out." Anyone else out there have a 12-year-old daughter? : )
Here is an example of a gift card for a special birthday. (See Enjoy Gift Card Holder.)
And the inside reveals the rest of the message...
If I were a store owner I would have a "Gift Card Holder" class and show them how to make 4-5 cards. Maybe a couple birthday cards, a graduation one and one for Christmas. Show them how easy it is so they will want to make more. (It really is addictive once you start!) During the holidays, make sure you have some kits or some even already made for people to "grab and go". You could do that with birthday card holders too.
I bet you want to win this die now! Post a comment by 10 a.m. CST tomorrow (Wednesday) and tell me how you would use this die. I will randomly pick the winner and send the die to you! *** Entries are no longer being accepted. ***
PS: Don't forget about our "Mom" challenge. Entries are due Monday, May 12.

Hi Tammy!
We have a "Gift Card Holder" but not this one. We use these type of dies for our own store gift cards. It lets the customer get creative and gives a personal touch for the recipient.

with the end of our school year coming up i would make cute teacher gift card holders.

I have one of your other gift card holders and I have examples of everything from Weddings,Baby, Christmas,to Birthday's on my website. I sell them in packs of 6 and tell people they are great to have on hand.I sent 120 to a restaurant in Hawaii this fall!
You can check them out in my gallery at:

Love the idea of a gift card holder. I have to admit I would use it slightly differently cause I am a scrapbooker at heart. :) I envision making a little mini book out of them - say, maybe 5 - and then after my daughter uses up those gift cards ask the cashier if I could keep it. Back into the little book it would go along with a photo and a note about what was bought. My daughter loves to get get gift cards too (11 years old!) but I hate having no record of what she "received" as gifts.
I travel to teach classes and I am sure scrapbookers would love to take this as a class since gift cards are so popular.

I like to use my dies for more than one purpose. This die could double as a business card holder for my extra special clients. It would make a nice presentation.

Thanks for the cute story, I hear the same thing from my niece! I made similar folders by hand for several Christmas presents, so the die would be a great time saver!
With Father's Day coming up, I'd use the die for a make it/take it day at our store for Father's Day gift cards. Gift cards are great for guys because they never seem to be able to articulate what they want. We would have some cardstocks out suited for men, with embellishments and die cuts to match. We have dies that match our local school's sports team, so the card wraps could be themed to the sports dads & coaches, too!

I love this die. I would definitely use it for all of the baby showers that seem to be cropping up in my life of late. It makes a gift card so much more decorative (more like a present) than just a card. Great idea, Accucut!
Posted by: September Litz | May 06, 2008 at 01:58 PM
i would definitely promote these at our store by using them to display our store's gift cards. then i would offer an accu-cut class where everyone would make several for different themes. people flock to our regular card classes and i bet they would flock to this one also.
thanks for the chance to win this awesome die!

I'd use this die to make check holders for my grandmother to use, so her grandchildren get something besides a card to open on Christmas and birthdays!
Posted by: Angie | May 06, 2008 at 01:59 PM
Once a month I teach Sunday School to about 10 5th-6th graders-wouldn't this be great for them to embellish and give a gift card to their mom and dad or use it as their personal library card holder to protect it?
Thanks for this great contest! I look forward to reading everyone's comments. Sincerely, Suetta

This would be a great die to give homemade or made from the computer personal IOU cards or "coupons good for a ____" I also think this would make giving just plain ole' cash look a whole lot better! Thanks for making us think creatively!

Tammy, we have a custom stationery and scrapclub business and this die is on our wish list. A large percentage of our customer base are busy moms and always ask for clever gift giving cards and this die would be perfect. We started hosting classes and this will definitely be one of them...the "enjoy life" is going to be a card lift! thanks!

I would use this die for real estate closing gifts. Using house stamps and die cuts, I would decorate the holder and put a gift card for Lowe's or Home Depot inside for the new home buyer to use on their new home!

I would let my kids give gift cards to their favorite teachers. Also, we are moving and I would like to give gift cards to our favorite neighbors.

Being a grandmother of 8, I send gift cards to children and grandchildren for birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, graduations, and other occasions. A gift card holder is a personal way of sending gift cards. It can be customized to the child's age or occasion. This is a great product!

What a way for our local town business to promote their gift cards....I make them custom holders with their logo/colors/related papers/ and they have an attractive way to market their cards - value added! Sounds like another way to make my Accucut machine work for me!

I would use this die to create gift card holders for wedding gifts.

This versatile die is one of many on my "wish list". Not only is it a great gift holder that can be decorated countless ways, but it would also make a great mini accordion album. I would also add a magnetic closure to it(I love the snap sound). Or, instead of a "gift card" holder, personalize the gift even more and print your own special "coupon" on the mat -- everyone enjoys the gift of time. And of course, it would also be a great hidden journaling area on a scrapbook page.

Love the Birthday gift card holder! This die is on my must have list now. :)
I see someone else had a similar idea as I did. I would find a way to make into a mutli-page card. I love making multiple page cards with G.C's on each page. Maybe there are file folder dies that would fit inside to make the pages. That way you can have different tabs along the side.
As always, great ideas Accu-Cut.

This would be so cool to use at school events..for door prizes of gift cards, and home for the Gift cards I am always seem to give Away! Thanks

I would use it as a promotional mailer for my business and slip a business card in the holder.

Love this die. What a great idea for gift giving.
Posted by: Judy Yelton | May 06, 2008 at 02:23 PM
What a cute creative die! WOW! I can think of tons of things to do with this (from cards to gift check holders to cute little mini albums to hidden journaling boxes on a sb page, oh MY!!!)
Posted by: Julia Miller | May 06, 2008 at 02:25 PM
This looks like a great way to give a gift card that makes it special. I'd love to have this die!!
Posted by: Bonney | May 06, 2008 at 02:26 PM
I have a 14 and a 17 year old daughter who give me the same answer when asked what they would like for gifts, so I relate completely.
I also have 13, 9, and 6 yo sons who seem to often get last minute birthday party invitations so I like to have a few gift cards on hand so I don't have to make a mad dash to the store to buy a gift. This would be a great die to make a few birthday gifts on hand and ready to go!

For National Scrapbooking Day, we had a 3 day crop in our store, with 32 people attending! We rented out the empty unit next to our store so everyone was able to spread out on their own table. What a fun 3 days! We received lots of thank you's as they left on Sunday and everyone wanted to know when the next one would be. We don't have a lot of hoopla on our Natl SB Day crops, just plenty of space & time for our customers to get things done! We do supply the required amount of chocolate and sodas, though!

As the owner of a scrapbook store, I would host a make-n-take and let the customers make a gift-card holder of their own to take with them.
We sell gift certificates to our store and we would use these to hold the gift certificates.
There are so many uses they could be used for!!

This die would be great for holding a special ATC or to be used as a card with a difference! Would love so much to win one!

I love this die. We're a gift card giving family - everyone gives/gets gift cards for birthdays, Christmas, etc. except for the little ones. Having this die would give more time to "dress up" the gift card holders instead of making the holder itself. This die would get lots of use in our household.
Posted by: Sandra B. | May 06, 2008 at 02:30 PM
We would use the die not only for gift cards, but for graduation or school pictures, maybe to incorporate an announcement of a new baby - which, by the way, we now have a new great-nephew who arrived last Monday...hmmmm...
Posted by: Donna Jean | May 06, 2008 at 02:31 PM
Well, It is not my birthday. I love the ideas for the die. I'm already planning my classes to use with the die after I win.
Posted by: Lola | May 06, 2008 at 02:34 PM
I think this would make a great baby shower invitation. Instead of putting a gift card in the slots you can incert the cards the mom-to-be received from retailers for her registries. I know I don't like things falling out at me when I open up an invitation and this would solve that problem!

What a great die! This is now on the top of my wish list. I would use it as a gift card holder or a business card holder. But the possibilities are endless - it would also make a cute mini album.

With this time of year in mind, my first thought was graduation cards with something like a Borders gift card in it. I know the grads here would sure love one.

I love the idea of using it for our store gift cards .....
We allow customers to use our dies during crops so I am certain it would get lots of use.

Tammy,
This is a great die! There are so many holidays and special occasions to use this die for. I really like your idea for a Gift Card Holder class which could include most every special occasion that people celebrate. Love it! This could also be used as a cute Birthday invite.. ie, the card holder would need to bring the special gift card back to open a treasure or something fun. Many possibilities! Miriam

I'd cut out giftcard holders using Garden Greetings plantable seed paper and give an eco friendly gift + the gift card!

I personally don't like to shop so gift cards are my favorite gift to give. What a great die to use to send a gift card to my Secret Sister! Would be a great way to save postage!

I would like to use this die to make a gift card tree. I think it would be nice to decorate the holders for all different occasions & match the gift card inside with the holder. You could also use it for a prize tree like at a baby shower or wedding shower...,it's just endless. Yes I do love to give & receive gift cards!!!

I would use this to teach a class.

How about a coupon holder. The kind of coupons that entitles you to "one hug a day for a week" " a meal of your choice" "a day to sleep late", etc. Love the business card idea.
Posted by: maria cloud | May 06, 2008 at 03:06 PM
This is a great die!! I would use it right now to make graduation cards and be able to put the gift card in it!! What a great die!! I might even see if it would work in the NC233 card die I have to put the insert in it. To bad I didn't have it last week to make cards for my husbands office for appreciation week and put the gift cards in a special card!
Posted by: Sandy Herndon | May 06, 2008 at 03:06 PM
I would use this for a cute birth announcement for people in the office. the baby's picture could be placed where the gift card is and the vital stats would be above it in the top area. I think it would be cute!
Or a good luck card for someone going to Vegas; you put a lucky frog on a small piece of cardstock that has been printed with a good luck phrase, and insert that where the gift card is held (or you can put money there instead).

I would use this die for giftcards for my family. With the increasing popularity of giving (and receiving) gift cards this is a way to continue to "personalize" your gift!

This die would make a great business card holder. We have a new administrator and recruiter for our grade school --she loves to scrapbook and use the die-cutting machine!-- this would be a great business card holder for her.

There are so many ways to use this card.... it is very versatile. I think that scrapping with it would be a great way to use it... make a book out of it. Of course, graduation purposes as well!
