If you're looking for a unique idea for a small favor container you may be able to find something in the travel items section of your local Target, Wal-Mart, any dollar store, etc. Traci found these cute little screw-top containers last year and turned them into Butterfly Favors.
On the top of the favor she used the Butterfly #6 long cut die to make the layered butterfly. The die has three "wing" shapes in different sizes ranging from 2 1/4" wide to 3" wide, perfect for layering. The extra long cut version has larger sizes.
I know that butterflies have been very popular this summer and have popped up on a number of scrapbook papers and embellishments. Over the past year or so we've also seen our fair share of birds, cupcakes, skulls, robots, owls, pirates and a few other suddenly "it" shapes.
So what is your prediction for the next "it" shape for this fall/winter? Click on the comments link below and tell me what your prediction is and you'll be entered to win today's giveaway... a $75 AccuCut gift certificate. You have until 9 a.m. CST Friday, May 9, to post your comment. *** Entries are no longer being accepted. ***

I would say maybe trees. You can make them with or without leaves for fall and winter. Trees are versatile and can be decorated so many ways.

I'd like to predict (or have you folks design) a holiday tree that we could decorate that would sit on top of a jar as a jar topper.....you may have to come up with 2 dies. One for the tree and one that has all the items that we can use to decorate the tree. OH...I am getting excited for the holidays already. :-)

I was going to say tree also. WIth the birds and butterflies being so popular it only fits. I was thinking of a bare tree and then you can decorate it with hearts for val day, then a spring tree for easter, stars for 4th of july, etc.

Steampunk themes is my prediction. Bowler Hat, Steam Engine Train, Goggles - Perfect for the young adult crowd. Cards, scrap booking, ACTs, felt appliques.
I have used one of the other butterfly dies to make a fun hat pin http://tinyurl.com/5es5f5
Have a great day.

I love this butterfly favor! Adorable. I know that trees have become very popular recently along with butterflies and ladybugs. I am predicting more dragonflies, hats (of all kinds) and faces. Lots of different caricatures and faces!
Posted by: vicki | May 08, 2008 at 07:37 AM
Keeping with the "winged" theme, I think we will be seeing more dragonflies. They are so delicate and attractive, that they just draw your eyes to them. With the wings, you can get the same kind of layered look as the butterfly.

I am going to say Paper dolls. Ones you can dress in different items. They would be great for scrapbooks.
Posted by: Rhonda Phillips | May 08, 2008 at 07:52 AM
I think snowflakes are always right up there for popularity. They are a versatile shape for the whole winter season and I think there are imaginative decorative uses waiting to be tapped.
Posted by: Bonney | May 08, 2008 at 07:53 AM
I'm guessing owls, leaves and snowflakes.
Posted by: bunny | May 08, 2008 at 08:02 AM
I would like to see trees, branches or stems, from which we can hang any themed items.
Posted by: Linda | May 08, 2008 at 08:24 AM
I think tree branches would be a great shape, as would people silhouettes.
Posted by: esther | May 08, 2008 at 08:53 AM
Bare trees and more owls would tie right in with not only what we are seeing now ( birds, butterflies, etc), but will tie in nicely with fall projects, Halloween, and leaves. For now I am enjoying Spring! Thanks for the great ideas everyone.

This is a tough one....Fall and Winter. Pumpkins are great for the fall (love your pumpkin favor box and can't wait to use it this fall :) and for Winter- how about a steaming cup of cocoa with swirly steam. I also was thinking of a branch since that's hot in the stamping world right now and privides a place for all the owls to land.(as well as fall leaves)
Posted by: Clarissa | May 08, 2008 at 09:14 AM
I think chairs or scooters :)
Posted by: kellie | May 08, 2008 at 09:27 AM
Birds are popular right now. And as a symbolic Christmas item I think birds will continue to be the thing. Personally I love snowflakes during winter, they rank right up there with my obsession of flowers in the spring.
Love many of the ideas already suggested; cocoa with swirly steam - sounds delicious, and owls for fall - perfect for the continuation of the bird theme.
Posted by: Dana | May 08, 2008 at 09:39 AM
I think birds and felt will be big.
Posted by: maria cloud | May 08, 2008 at 10:07 AM
I believe the next most popular shape will be a frame that will hold an 8 x10 photo.
Thanks,
J. Raper

I see trees being a huge interest as well as snowflakes (as the season grows closer) are a given.
I also see a great interest in bugs, butterflies, dragonflies, birds (of all types) and anything associated with them. Including, but not limited to flowers (spring and fall), bird houses, branches and such.
Anything 3-D that you can add dimension with and not lay flat. Dies that come to life.

what a creative and adorable butterfly treat holder! Awesome, I love it! Hmm, next fall/winter "it" shape/image...more birds, trees and branches. Perhaps also winter hats, mittens and boots! Whatever the upcoming month have in store, it's sure to be fun!! Thanks for the chance at an super cool giveaway!

After Cup Cakes.... it is Monkeys,Monkeys,Monkeys that are hot and getting hotter in rubber stamps, stickers, fashion and home decor. You see monkeys depicted on shirts, stationary, jewelry, fashion and home accessories. Some craft companies have complete lines devoted to monkeys with ribbon, paper and everything in between. I am even seeing pastel plush monkeys in the baby lines presented by manufacturers at the major gift shows. Monkeys are appropriate for both children and adult themes as a versatile design element for crafters in creating party favors, cards, scrapbook pages and jewelry. I predict that monkeys will continue to gain in popularity and be a key crossover design in all markets thru 2008 and into 2009. Thanks for the opportunity to share! I absolutely love the butterfly die! It's so adorable and versatile! While there are a lot of "hot" ideas right now, I'd love to see some wedding cake dies. I make wedding cakes for friends and would like to match a card with their cake. Thanks for all the ideas!

Love the favor!
I am thinking that more tapestry designed shapes are due - spinning off of damask shapes. Would love to see a die for a simple version of this.
(also thing nature inspired shapes are a sure thing)
Posted by: Crystal | May 08, 2008 at 12:15 PM
I love the little party favor.
I also think trees will be huge this fall, not pine trees but the large spreading type.
I'd also say flowers, not daisies or roses but mums or other fall blooms.
Posted by: Brenda | May 08, 2008 at 12:21 PM
Skull and crossbones seems to be popular.
Posted by: Angie | May 08, 2008 at 12:26 PM
I predict the next "it" shape will be Safari Leaves to go along with all the monkeys, elephants, tigers and giraffes.
I would love to see a die set of layered Zoo animals that can be used on scrapbook pages but can be pop dotted and layered to make them look dimensional. Along with Safari leaves and the tree to put them on.

What a wonderful butterfly accent! LOVE IT!
I was hoping to see something along the line of swirls and floruishes. They compliment so many other things that they seem like the next big thing.
Posted by: Carey | May 08, 2008 at 12:46 PM
I think the monkey will get more popular and be the "it".
Although it might be difficult to make a book shape out of a monkey!

One thing I did forget to mention in the next "in" things are pets and animals. ie...dogs, cats, monkeys, lions, bears. Hard to make books out of...yes. But, oh what great compliments for those who just love animals.
Posted by: Tina Reed | May 08, 2008 at 01:18 PM
i can see snowflakes being big this winter, large ones die cut from felt, acrylic, plasma, fabric, clitter card and all layered up, a bit like the layered flowers you see. i think it would look great if you cut some different snowflakes from different materials with different textures and layered them up fixed with a lovely big brad!
Posted by: Lisa Bird | May 08, 2008 at 03:09 PM
A lilac plant.
Posted by: Michelle Simons | May 08, 2008 at 03:21 PM
I think the next “it” will be something with fruit. Right now the Strawberry and Cherry are popular. Maybe for the fall, a sliced apple?
Posted by: Sandy | May 08, 2008 at 03:38 PM
I love the different sized layers for the wings... very cool!
For up and coming images, I'd say nature in general will keep going strong. Right now I'm seeing a lot of deer, penguins, giraffes, etc... in the print world. Still lots of trees and birds as well.
Posted by: Gwen | May 08, 2008 at 03:47 PM
The it shape for fall/winter will be a leafless tree.
Posted by: Julie | May 08, 2008 at 04:00 PM
The next big "IT" shape will be things to enjoy at home-such as bar-b-q grills, picnic baskets and accessories, tv, video games, home cooking-everyday household type items. The reason I feel this way is that people are going to have to begin enjoying being at home again due to the high gas prices and cost of living increases! I also think that pet themes such as dogs and cats and pet accessories will be huge!

Paisley is such a hot decorator pick that a paisley die would be so cool!
Posted by: Mary Jo Baird | May 08, 2008 at 04:17 PM
I think that different animals will continue to be popular. I also feel that borders will be big also. If you extend the border line that you have to larger scallops and ric racs etc.. I also feel that with the zutter and various other mini book making tools that various dies for mini books will be very popular. Dies with the holes in them already for pages would be great too!! Lastly, if you worked together with more companies like you did and do with CI, like K&CO or Maya Road to produce dies that work with there naked lines of books that would be great!!

Cute idea. A celebration of Spring. Yay! We survived winter!
Posted by: Meredith Peters | May 08, 2008 at 06:31 PM
Love the container. I actually have about 6 of them. Now that I have some inspiration, maybe I'll decorate them. The new shape that will be up & coming is going to be the bare tree with the leaves, apples, flowers, etc. to decorate them. I also think the monkey image will be big with the addition of a bananna, vine, rope, tree, etc. I like both those ideas.
Posted by: Sheila | May 08, 2008 at 07:31 PM
I think that trees and leaves will be a popular die cut in the fall & winter. Tina

I love the favor!! So adorable!!! I think wings will be the next in shape...then you can give flight to anything you wish.
Posted by: Joybear | May 08, 2008 at 08:15 PM
I think monkeys are going to be around for awhile and maybe frogs. also for the fall and Christmas we are going to see lots more glitter & bling.
Posted by: Lola Fields | May 08, 2008 at 10:29 PM
I think that the next IT shape will be a bare tree or leaves. The trees are so versatile because you can add leaves for fall, keep it bare for winter, or add flowers for spring.
Posted by: Skye Gillingham | May 08, 2008 at 10:35 PM
I'm predicting scottie dogs - in profile, full body or just the face - with lots of plaid papers to coordinate. reds and blacks great for winter ! Scottie stand up cards and name plates. fun!!
Posted by: peggy | May 08, 2008 at 10:48 PM
I would say more intricate swirls and flourishes - ones that are specifically for the bigger accucut machine and are bigger that what could be made on one's personal die cut machine. It would be a great die for a store to invest in because of all the different colors and textures it could be cut with and an incentive for the customer to use the store's machine/make a purchase! I know I would need them in every color! Maybe even swirls or flourishes sprinkled with fall leaves or different sized snowflakes for the seasons.
Posted by: Mendy Douglass-Atchley | May 08, 2008 at 11:16 PM
I'm thinking a snowflake or sort that's like a flourish. It's hard to explain but it's clear as day in my mind! :-)
Posted by: Katie | May 08, 2008 at 11:30 PM
I like a timeless theme such as a tree branch which could be added to with leaves, icicles, birds, whatever to use with all the seasons, depending on what you used with it.....
Posted by: MollyK. Barry | May 08, 2008 at 11:33 PM
I think that the next it thing will be paisley like shapes. The possibilities are endless with punches , dies and colorful papers.
Posted by: cassandra | May 08, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Love the butterfly container. Staying along those lines, I think ladybugs will be in.
